Son of a photographer and grandson of a potter based in the city of Seto, Ryusuke Asai is a dynamic ceramic artist/musician with creative DNA flowing through his genes.
He produces classical tea bowls with an ever so nuanced, minimalist approach, taking great care in the expression of each piece. Previously an assistant to whimsical and innovative ceramicist Ryoji Koie before setting up his own studio, Asai’s works are similar in their variation of color and function. His activities surpass the boundaries of various genres, such as ornaments, pots, paintings and sculpture.
He has exhibited regularly at Ippodo Gallery in both Japan and New York.
