Takashi Tomo-oka: -カメラで花を描く-

Overview
The most important element of my work is the encounter with plants that have been gathered in the mountains, carefully nurtured by gardeners or those that I have grown myself.

Over the years, I have come into contact with numerous plants, and each plant possesses its own ecosystem, its own personality.

Among them are those whose shape or color attract my eye and I capture these in my photographs to create a record of their fleeting beauty that only exists in that moment.

Fifteen years have passed since I began work on this series, but I look forward to coming into contact with many, many more plants in the years to come.

These original photographic artworks are all limited editions and each is signed and numbered.

Takashi Tomo-oka

Flower Photo It was the summer of 2010 when I first came across the work of Takashi Tomo-oka.

The flowers he depicted, not with a paintbrush but a digital camera, seemed to represent the delicate Japanese sense of beauty while simultaneously expressing his own unique aesthetics.

His tenderness towards flowers and the sincerity of the farmers who provide him with them can be felt in each picture.

After his exhibition at Ippodo New York in 2011, his work appeared in ‘ELLE DÉCOR’ (U.S.A.) and ‘AD’ (Germany) magazines; his work was acquired for the collection of the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts and then in 2013, the UCS Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena (U.S.A.) held a solo exhibition of his work.

He won the American Dream.

Ten years later, he is silently photographing the grass and trees as he encounters them.
